Ewing's King in Black tie-ins make it seem like the coolest, scariest, and most important thing to ever happen. They definitely hired him to do Venom on the strength of this stuff, and then his Venom launch is deeply disinterested in all of it.
This lady sees Carnage killing people on the news and is like "this is a perfect excuse to kill my awful children."
@j_partridgeIII It takes a man with extreme confidence in his talent and no self awareness to do things like this:
This stuff looks great. You gain basically nothing by slapping a bunch of fake newsprint filters over it or worse redoing the whole thing to look "modern"
I like this bit because it makes Spider-Man look both self-centered and incompetent compared to Venom. Venom's like "you would have done the right thing too, right?" and Spider-Man is like "yeah I guess, if I HAVE to"
Venom giving himself normal teeth to be less intimidating to children and he ends up the creepiest he's ever been 😭
Venom in these early issues is obsessed with journalistic integrity and the power of the free press and its so incongruous with his whole vibe.
