The Roman soldier and historian Ammianus Marcellinus (330-395 AD) made a list of the domains of the Sassanian king Shâpur II (309-379 AD).
He listed Tokharistan ("Bactriani"), Sogdiana, Sistân and Scythia as Sassanian territories.
