The Nightmare is a flanking unit that is a great threat to enemy lands and has Banding which means that it has a strength of three banners when activated with two Horse Dice.

There are four buildings that let you claim dice out of turn and here's one of them. If you've built a barracks you will have access to more sword dice and that means it will be easier for you to get your infantry on the battlefield.

When the Game Hunter is about the war effort has to make without most Bow and Horse Dice.

Take advantage of your enemies plans or mess up the strategy of two of your opponents with this infiltrator advisor.

Sometimes all you need is an honest brawl without any hocus pocus.

And these four images are the only illustrated parts of the final card image. Everything else is compiled, drawn, mixed and colored by the temple code.

This is my card rendering pipeline:
1) Each card is described in XML.
2) The card data is transformed into SVG using 2000 lines of handwritten template code.
3) A batch script uses Inkscape to generate cards in different image formats.

The Moat building is one of the cards I've had the most problem with. The game text needs to be consistent with other similar unit cards but it's basically a hole in the ground so it gets weird thematically and the illustration is hard to pull off.

The Windmill lets you activate your Homeland twice each round. In the core game that means you can retreat TWO unit cards from your hand (to the bottom of your deck) and then draw TWO new unit cards to your hand each round.

Cards with short game text that still feel unique are a blast to make. Regarding the artwork it is one of those illustrations I'll most likely return to and tweak in the future but when you're doing tons of illustrations you can't be too picky.
