Can you believe that there are people out there that refuse to accept that this series isn't 100% serious, and reject the notion of putting JOKES (gasp!) in it?
@sackchief Both characters have since made it into Smash because of their iconicity, and have had numerous remakes of their games... complete with redesigns that make them look a bit older!
@sackchief I think about this a lot, too. They both also feature a protagonist who is thought of as some sort of legendary badass face of the franchise, with an "OH SHIT" moment where you go back to the world of the first game and an awesome thing regarding said character happens.
I've been feeling really burned out and unmotivated lately, and it's making me want to reread Mister Miracle. It's... so real.
These limitations can be hidden with a shift in art style. It doesn't matter that the faces don't change on tiny 2D sprites, because it asks you to use your imagination to fill in details. The detail is already on the 3D models, and it's just not impressive by today's standards.
@souIstyce People trying to explain why Act 3 is terrible, and I shouldn't enjoy it
I assume Solo and Sofia are also used in VI, if you choose to meet characters from IV, but I'd have to check for myself. Solo and Rek are also name-dropped in DQ of the Stars, but that's not AS definitive, being a spinoff and all.
Mister Miracle is such an important fucking book. It deals with anxiety and depression in such a relatable and real way despite the fact it's about a god-turned-escape-artist-turned-superhero. It's also hilarious, heartwarming, romantic, and just... powerful.
DQVII's artwork is so moody and strange, it's such a perfect fit for the game whose story is meant to make you feel conflicting emotions. Looking at it makes me nostalgic for a time I missed out on.
