Daniel Defoe, who died #OTD 1731. In his writing career, he used 198+ different pen-names, making it hard to identify all his works. He was often in debt, & was probably hiding from creditors when he died. Defoe was buried in Bunhill Fields.

Victor Hugo's 'Notre-Dame de Paris' (better known in English as 'The Hunchback of Notre-Dame') was first published #OTD 1831 in French; an English version followed in 1833.
Long considered a classic, it shot up the bestseller list in 2019 when there was a fire at Notre-Dame.
