During WW2 German occupation in Belgium he published the series in the Nazi controlled newspaper Le Soir and after the war and throughout the rest of his life was accused, by some, of being a traitor.
Died #OTD 1789 Novelist John Cleland.
Cleland published Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure 1749 whilst serving time in prison and was released shortly after only to be rearrested (for the books bawdy content) along with the publisher and printer.
