My favourite C64 Arcade Conversions – No.12
Salamander
Imagine 1988
One of the C64’s best blasters, this is a fantastic conversion – especially the lava level which is stunningly recreated. It'd be top 3 if I’d had a disk drive, but the tape multi-load was an absolute killer.
My favourite C64 Arcade Conversions – No.13
Bionic Commando
Go! 1988
Another game with ace music (6 superb SIDs in all), Bionic Commando is a cracking conversion from Software Creations. It's instantly playable, hugely addictive & captures the spirit of the coin-op perfectly.
My favourite C64 Arcade Conversions – No.16
Commando
Elite, 1985
Instantly addictive with nice graphics, an amazing Rob Hubbard soundtrack & ace gameplay, Commando could’ve been the perfect arcade conversion – if only it had another 5 levels!
My favourite C64 Arcade Conversions – No.17
Yie Ar Kung Fu
Imagine
1985
Another Imagine release, Yie Ar Kung Fu isn't perfect, but it's a sound conversion of the all-action original. Nice colourful graphics, ace music & plenty of enjoyable, frantic arcade fighting.
My favourite C64 Arcade Conversions – No.19
Rampage
Activision
1987
A solid arcade conversion with lots of fun to be had eating people, bringing down helicopters & smashing up buildings. Most fun when played with mates. Unless you're the one playing on the keyboard!
My Favourite Arcade Games of 1989 – No.1
Final Fight
Originally a sequel to Street Fighter, Final Fight changed direction following Double Dragon’s success. A brilliant brawler with fantastic graphics, funky tunes & exciting gameplay. One of the very best examples of the genre.
My Favourite Arcade Games of 1989 – No.2
Golden Axe
2 years after DD’s debut, scrolling beat em ups were still packing a punch & Golden Axe was one of the best. Its fantasy setting, fun characters, ace graphics & compulsive hack & slash action, set it apart from the crowd.

Super Monaco Grand Prix
Man, driving games were BIG in 89! Sega got themselves back in the race with this fab F1 racer. More realistic than their mid-80s race games, SMGP is an engrossing experience that captures the F1 vibe effectively.
My Favourite Arcade Games of 1989 – No.5
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
TMNT captures the spirit of the comic & cartoon series perfectly. 89/90 was peak Turtle mania, & the game was a giant global hit, becoming the highest-grossing arcade game since Double Dragon. Turtle Power!

S.C.I
Tony & Ray return in this superb sequel. Better graphics, new cars, weather changes, the ability to fire at offending vehicles, and Karen - a new assistant. Not overly different from Chase HQ, but still massive amounts of fun.
