THREAD 1/10
11 years before Bushiroad launched its multi-license anime TCG, #WeißSchwarz, home-video distributor Pioneer Entertainment released Ani-Mayhem (geddit?)
Released July '96, AM was the 1st CCG to take its characters & setting from various Japanese animation properties
CCGs have had a huge impact on popular culture
Fictionalized CCGs have been used as a plot device on television shows. Here is a few examples:
1 Adventure Time - Card Wars
2 Big Bang Theory - Mystic Warlords of Ka'a
3 Everybody Loves Raymond - Hackidu
4 Disney's Recess - Ajimbo

Most tragically CHRYSALIS' cancelation meant that we never saw the fantastic artwork commissioned for the game
Here is a sample of what we could have held in our hands

However, her contributions to games didn't end with #MagicTheGathering
During her time as a developer she worked on the #SimpsonsTCG too
In 2004 she was promoted to a Brand Manager for licensed TCGs at #WotC (She would have overseen the #NeoPets, #StarWars & #GIJoe TCGs)

Elaine started with @Wizards in 1999 as a Tournament Policy Manager. She quickly earned her way into the R&D team by 2000.
Once there, she developed for the Onslaught & Legion sets before designing on #MagicTheGathering's 8th Edition & the Champions Of Kamigawa expansion
Why not celebrate #NationalCerealDay with a bowl of these @GenMillsCereal classics
They are from Spring 2004 so they might be a little stale but they came with a card from the #NEOPETS TCG, a game published by @Wizards & designed by @Elliott_Games
#WOTCstaff #TradingCards #CCG
Since those colossal contributions to the CCG canon, Mike Elliott has continued to create games for both the US & Japan
His work includes #DiceMasters for @wizkidsgames (w/@Eric_Lang), the acclaimed deck-builder Thunderstone for @alderac & recently Terror Below for @PlayRenegade
#DuelMasters became a huge success in Japan & evolved into a media franchise. Duel Masters become the 2nd most popular CCG in Japan & is still played today
Eventually, as was the plan, it was launched in the US. However, the game didn't get as much interest from a US audience
His experience with the #PokemonTCG gave Mike first-hand insight to the Japanese CCG market.
Eventually, after leading other WOTC products like X-Men & Simpsons TCGs, he pitched the idea of launching WOTC's own CCG in Japan. The idea gained traction & grew into Duel Masters
MAGI-NATION attracted many players to the game with it's unique & gorgeous art
The art direction drew on traditional fantasy characters but infused them with an almost anime-inspired quality
Some of the artists on MND were #MattHolmberg, @rich_werner, @TJGillette & #MichaelVega
