After watching THE NORTHMAN, I remembered that for me, and many kids around the world, our first interaction with Norse mythology was via the anime SAINT SEIYA (aka Los Caballeros del Zodiaco) when the heroes traveled to Asgard to fight Odin’s warriors like Thor, Hagen,Fenrir.

LILO & STITCH is truly wonderful, amusingly weird and more sophisticated than it probably gets credit for. A Hawaii-set sci-fi adventure with a bunch of Elvis Presley songs and some subtle but interesting cultural commentary. The songs by Mark Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu are also great.

As I mentioned in my review, another thing I hated about AMBULANCE is that it joins the ranks of Hollywood movies weirdly obsessed with depicting La Santa Muerte as a standard motif for any Latino criminals they show. Think SICARIO 2 or THE TAX COLLECTOR, and many others.

For me, the real tragedy of the #Oscars will be if the FLEE team goes home empty-handed tonight. A history-making. gorgeous movie that supports its powerful message with visual artistry and nuanced storytelling, because an important message alone doesn’t make for a good movie.
