Spidey-pus! The argonaut octopus is the only animal that spins a shell with its ARMS, just like Peter Parker shooting web. Ok not exactly. But it IS a mindblowing superpower that you can read about more in my @TheOctoNation blog post: https://t.co/57gNaSFK5a
Here they are all in one place: the #Squimoji of #Squidtember! Feel free to download and use as you like! (now, onwards into #OCTOpusmonth....)
okay #Squidtember I gotta make up for posting about octopuses TWICE this morning! 😆
in grad school I studied Humboldt squid! their babies are called rhynchoteuthion paralarave, which means "nose-squid almost-larvae"
explanation in thread...
so excited to remember I had this art waiting in the wings for #Squidtember https://t.co/qQvHcBIaTX
pseudomorph #squimoji for #Squidtember, a brilliant request from @dianateuthis ! A pseudomorph is a squid-shaped ink blob released to confuse predators, but what does it mean in text-based human conversation??? open to suggestions
perhaps a good time to announce that my more-or-less-monthly newsletter, the OctoPost, features *at least* as many decapods as octopods (especially in #Squidtember!)
ALL THE NEWS THAT'S FIT TO INK: https://t.co/SXqoKFrisn
Announcing a very special #Squidtember project: #Squimoji! Feel free to grab and upload squimoji #1 aka "squink" anywhere you like (Slack/Discord/Twitch/...) Use it to escape an awkward situation, to call out obfuscation tactics, or...got other ideas??
I had my birthday again on the 19th (still shocked this happens every year) and celebrated by filling cephalopod doodle requests on Instagram (like I did on Twitter in 2021). People had delightful ideas: octopus tourist, squid teacher, bobtail squid florist, octopus doing karate.
@CarolCHinz @KyleLukoff 😍 yes!
(They're not furry, but I also think about squibbons from THE FUTURE IS WILD on a fairly regular basis)
@JusttheZooofUs Hi, I'm Danna, I write books about nature for adults and kids and I like to draw! Cephalopods are my fave, but I'm also wild for worms, slugs, isopods, fossils, larvae of all kinds . . . This is such an awesome thread!
