A question has been sitting in my inbox for an embarrassingly long time and I'd like to crowdsource answers. Why aren't there any freshwater or terrestrial cephalopods? Right AND wrong answers gleefully accepted.

Squid and all other cephalopods lack teeth, and therefore miss out on visits from the tooth fairy. But vampire squid--unique among cephalopods!--grow a second pair of fins and lose their first. There ought to be a fairy for that. 🧚🦑

I'm researching squid-Godzilla interspecies conflict for @NerdNiteEB and wondering if anyone can help translate the notes on these field observations, or identify the human face on that squid's posterior mantle?

Child: The cat is shedding so much!
Me: Do you know why cats shed as the weather gets warmer?
Child: Because they don't want to get too hot.
Me: Right! And they don't have to think about it, it's just something their body does.
Child: They're adapted to do it.
Me:
