#224 Sitonai
As Ainu tradition is almost entirely oral it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find a source for Sitonai. We eventually found it on a blog dedicated to baseball. Sitonai is a version of the clever girl dragon slayer, who uses planning and wits to defeat her would-be killer.
#223 Diarmuid O’Dyna
Diarmuid has his own version of the Loathly Lady myth. In a twist from the usual, Diarmuid is able to find her after he breaks his oath AND cures her from her illness, at the cost of no longer loving her. She returns him home, with his beloved greyhound.
#222 Mysterious Heroine XX
While not the first robot in the cast, MHXX is the first clear reference to the super robot genre that Nasu loves so much. There are several figures of mecha Saber in existence prior to MHXX, most of them fan-made garage kits.
#221 Queen Medb
Medb’s hilariously bizarre knitwear bikini outfit is in fact originally from a famous gravure model’s photo shoot. (I believe the model in question is Enako, but I am not entirely sure.) This certainly puts her photo book and popularity in a new light.
#220 BB
One of the two deities in summer BB is Pele, the goddess of volcanos, fire, and the creator of the Hawaiian islands. Absent from game is her connection to the hula, which one version of the myth has her dancing the first hula in victory once she escaped from her sister.
I was so gobsmacked by the Primate Murder reveal a friend who knows virtually nothing about Type-Moon was like “okay. Explain. I need to know” https://t.co/0GyTfU8pyK
#219 Jeanne d’Arc Alter
One of the factors contributing to Jeanne’s execution was her choice to wear men’s clothes, claiming that God and the angels commanded her to. Because of this, she has been considered an early feminist and an icon for subverting gender roles.
#217 Ibaraki-douji
Some stories have Ibaraki-douji as a male oni & second in command to Shuten-douji, and others have her as female, sometimes even Shuten’s wife! There are multiple accounts of her retrieving her arm from Tsuna, & it was a popular subject in literature & plays.
