#194 The Queen of Sheba

First appearing in the Tanakh, she is one of the most famous legends of the Middle East. Supposedly the child of a djinn, she often is given animal characteristics and (not present in FGO) hairy legs. Like most Biblical figures, her existence is debated.

A popular guardian deity in Chinese folklore. Because they travel on fire wind wheels, they are regarded as the god of professional drivers like truckers, taxi drivers or bus drivers. It is not uncommon to see a small statue in vehicles for a safe drive.

#192 Circe

While practically synonymous with an aggressive, dangerous woman, prior to the Odyssey, Circe was a more neutral goddess of great magic. The Argonauts came to her to be purified of murdering Medea’s brother and while she does so, she makes them leave immediately.

#190 & #191 Mecha Eli-chan & Mecha Eli-chan Mk. II

Walking (er, floating) references to super robots & the Toho Godzilla films, the Eli-chans are extremely popular with Japanese elementary schoolers. Their Magus 100-Shot Volley Skill is a reference to Melty Blood’s Mecha Hisui.

#189 Osakabehime

Believed to haunt Himeji castle, Osakabehime was believed to meet the lord of the castle once a year. The youkai was not originally explicitly female, and it is believed it came from combining “Osakabe” (of the walls) with “hime” (princess) of Himeji Castle.

According to historical documents, Uesugi Kenshin was so impressed by Danzo’s skills as an illusionist that he staged an elaborate test for the ninja to pass, and while details differ, Danzo did with flying colors. (continued in alt text)

According to folklore, Inshun is most known for a duel with Musashi and appears lots of popular media. In reality when Musashi visited Inshun’s temple, Inshun would have been in his teens and his uncle his eighties. A different man accepted the challenge.

Much of what we know of Tomoe comes from legend and there is no evidence she herself existed. However, recent archaeological evidence has revealed that women made up a higher percentage of warriors than previously believed, meaning she was far from unheard of.

Summer Ishtar is modeled after a Japanese race queen. Effectively a model who accompanies the pit crew, who exists to promote and be worshipped by fans. Their outfits are generally very swimsuit-esque! Also, this isn’t the first time Rin has been a race queen…
