The #festival persisted in The Silmarillion - less detail, but still a pivotal moment in the story of the Fall of Gondolin.

What other invented festivals can you think of in fantasy literature?

Here’s an invented #festival: “Tarnin Austa or the Gates of Summer” celebrated in Gondolin (in #Tolkien’s Arda) to mark the beginning of summer. That’s the moment that Melko(r) chooses to attack Gondolin.

As for Galadriel, well, I don’t really need to say much, do I? 🧝♀️

And, still on authors/illustrators, may I mention the amazing @henryhneff, whose YA fantasy books feature his own illustrations? A selection from his 1st series, The Tapestry!

My twitter feed has been joyfully full of #BookIllustrationOfTheDay celebrations! Thank you @mrjamesmayhew! My contribution (predictably!) is from an author/illustrator: J.R.R. #Tolkien, who famously provided his own illustrations for The Hobbit!

OAK: Acorns cups can become fairy shelters, as in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream: “All their elves for fear, creep into acorn-cups, and hide them there”

18th day of my #PicturebookAdventCalendar: Ian Falconer’s Olivia Helps with #Christmas! Olivia is her usual feisty, funny self, with added #Christmas cheer + hilarity, eg. getting tangled with Christmas lights or getting creative with the tree! @UofGFantasy @UofGEducation 🎄🐷
17th day of my #PicturebookAdventCalendar: Virginia Mayo's Don't Forget Me Father #Christmas, a lovely wordless picturebook following a (rather annoyed!) little baby who misses out on presents + ends up following Father Christmas to the North Pole! @UofGFantasy @UofGEducation 🎅
3rd day of my #PicturebookAdventCalendar: Julia Donaldson’s and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man! It’s a great one to read leading up to #Christmas as the story starts in the spring and ends on Christmas Eve! Follow the adventures of Stick Man trying to return to his Family Tree! 🎄
Happy #madhatterday! Here are two versions of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party by former .@UKLaureate Anthony Browne
