As it is #BankHolidayMonday I thought I'd start today with a seaside image. This is "Lyme Regis" by John Cooper from c.1934/35. #JohnCooper #LymeRegis #Dorset #BankHoliday #SeaSide #ELG
Good evening @bwthornton & thank you, as always. Here's another "Still Life" by Phyllis Bray from her post-war work which is in the collection @GrundyBlackpool #PhyllisBray #ELG https://t.co/ICW3R1ez5H
Good morning Emma @emmadora & thank you, as always. Here's one that I haven't shown for a long time: it is "Orleston Road, N7" by Elwin Hawthorne from c.1933/34. It is in the collection @AbdnArtMuseums #ElwinHawthorne #SundayMorning #ELG https://t.co/6CLOVOF0Mq
Good evening Maiella @maiellamipiace & thank you. Judging by your description, I believe that you are thinking of "The Scullery" by Walter Steggles from 1927. It is one of the ELG images that is available as a greeting card design here:- https://t.co/zh18qz9oNq #greetingcards https://t.co/GOQgbTUFP2
@jwripple My pleasure, John. Walter Steggles painted at least four versions of Canvey Island, only one of which is still known to exist & that is the one that you would have seen @ArtGallerySoton back in 2017. This black & white photo is of one of the other versions of "Canvey Island"
Good evening Gill @coyigille13 & thank you: how interesting that you know this view so well. Here's another painting that shows a very similar viewpoint: this is "St Mark's Church" by Harold Steggles from 1932. #HaroldSteggles #ELG https://t.co/Ztd1RpFrQB
Good evening Marilyn @NagOnTheLake & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Here's another domestic scene for you, but this one seems somewhat "chilly" to me! This is "The Scullery" by Walter Steggles from 1927. #WalterSteggles #ELG https://t.co/d7pBrW5FE6
Good morning Lin @lou_chatfield & thank you. Continuing with the Dorset theme, here's another one which I hope you'll like. This is "Lyme Regis" by John Cooper from c.1934. #JohnCooper #LymeRegis #Dorset #thursdaymorning #ELG https://t.co/lIoU8uelHe
@NagOnTheLake @DannyVanBooks @yearsofreading Ah, how interesting, Marilyn: I couldn't remember, I'm afraid. In later life Walter Steggles revisted "Stratford" in a painting entitled "Bow Back Rivers" which you'll see here. You'll note the differences in the roof-line with the mill building in the middle distance to the left
Good morning Tom @tomemurtha & thank you, as always. I hope you enjoy your walk. Here's "Boats on the River Yare" by Walter Steggles which might engender thoughts of a stroll along a river bank. #WalterSteggles #SaturdayMorning #SaturdayMotivation #ELG https://t.co/XU4nDYcsL3
