Tyrus Wong's lush pastels shaped the look & design of Walt Disney's Bambi. Wong began as an in-betweener for Disney but it was his evocative sketches that caught the attention of Walt himself. Later, he would create pre-production sketches for such films as Rebel without a Cause.
As a child, there was no more magical day than the one my Mom used to take me to the library on. It was there that my world became larger, more magical. I encountered stories that would shape & impact me well into adulthood. They gave me a sense of wonder & connection.
Garth Williams believed that books "given, or read, to children can have a profound influence!' With that in mind, he used his illustrations to try to "awaken something of importance: responsibility, respect for others, interest in the world at large!'"
This reminds me, I need to visit my favorite bakery. Anyone want to come with for coffee, cake & conversation?
