These pages come from the 1902 editions of the ‘Bloem en Blad’ calendar designed by Netty van der Waarden. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to unearth any further information about this artist.

The Dutch publisher C.A.J. van Dishoeck was famous for the beautiful design and high quality of his publications. In 1901 he published the first edition of his 'Flower and Leaf' calendar, illustrated and designed by Netty van der Waarden.

Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935) had a very successful career working as an illustrator for books, magazines and advertising. Her images of and for children were extremely popular, and she became America’s highest paid female illustrator.

Around this time Jane Atché met the very successful artist Alphonse Mucha and became his student and assistant. Very little is known about the details of their collaboration, but there are striking similarities between their works from the period.

A few more illustrations from Jugend. Otolia Kraszewska worked in many other media ranging from book covers and decorations to wallpapers, postcards, and menus, and took commissions from wealthy clients to produce visiting cards, bookplates, screens and painted fans.

In 1895 Ethel Reed produced the illustrations, cover and endpapers of Arabella and Araminta Stories, a children's book about the life of two twin sisters by Gertrude Smith. You can see the whole thing here: https://t.co/C8biZbVRCu

Ethel Reed (1874-1912) moved to Boston with her mother in 1890 and at age 20, without much schooling, began to work as a graphic artist. Over the next two years she produced more than 25 posters which earned her recognition across the US and Europe.

Anna Sipkema designed two beautiful "Flower and Leaf" calendars for the Dutch publishing house C.A.J. van Dishoeck. These three color lithographs were created for the 1904 edition.
