Funny enough, Abyss from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is actually incredibly small, barely clocking in above Venom.

In-game, its sprite is resized to (probably) 4x resolution, giving it the appearance of being large.

Forgot how big Onslaught's second form was.

(An upright Venom for comparison.)

Barring CP System III games, Capcom's pixel art uses 15-colour sprites, occasionally mixing in sprite layering for things like Hayate's blade here.

That Capcom were able to do justice to so many characters with 15-colour sprites is a good example of quality over quantity.

Pixel artists really underestimate how much mileage you can get from 15 colours.

Street Fighter Alpha's Cammy reuses skin tones in most everything. The hair, gauntlets and especially boots all work these tones into their colour scheme.

TIL: Art of Fighting characters also vomit when hit in the stomach.

An interesting but ultimately pretty bad feature in Art of Fighting 2 -- after the player's 3rd battle they're offered a multi-choice bonus game, one of which gives access to the character's super move upon completion.

After so much of their health bar is depleted, characters will also start going a bit limp, lowering their arms and such.

All these features together make for a pretty dynamic fight sequence compared to the contemporaries at the time.
