'Interior of a cottage at Dentdale' and 'Interior of a cottage at Rievaulx,' watercolours by artist Charles West Cope dating to around 1840. The interiors were painted on the spot and by this time it was not unusual for artists to go round the country on 'sketching tours.'

Easby Abbey by George Cuitt (1774-1859). The abbey more correctly known as the Abbey of St Agatha was a Premonstratensian order where the canons wore a white habit and became known as the White Canons. They were founded by Roald, Constable of Richmond Castle in 1152.

I have shown some of these before but I really do love these Mary Ellen Best interiors. She was born in York in 1809 and died in Germany in 1891. Working mainly in watercolours she painted scenes of domestic life creating a wonderful record of house interiors.
