Kujira-Tori (The Whale Hunt). 2001 #Ghibli Museum short film written & directed by Hayao #Miyazaki. Based on a children's story by Reiko Nakagawa ("The Sky Colored Seed"), where nursery school children pretend 2 build a boat to sail the sea & catch a big whale.

Chu Zumo (A Sumo Wrestler's Tail). A 2010 #Ghibli Museum short film written by Hayao #Miyazaki and directed by Akihiko Yamashita. It's the story of an elderly couple who help their house mice win a sumo wrestling contest. Based on Japanese folk tale "The Mice's Sumo Tournament."

Hoshi Wo Katta Hi (2006, Hayao #Miyazaki). Screenshots from the official artbook for the #Ghibli Museum short film about a boy who plants a seed that becomes a planet with moons. Based on a story by Naohisa Inoue of Iblard Jikan fame.

Yadosagashi (2006, Hayao #Miyazaki). Here are some screenshots from the #Ghibli Museum short film about a young girl named Fuki who discovers the wonders of the natural world while searching for a new home. Little or no dialog, all sound effects recorded w/human voices.

Photos: Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind (1984, Hayao #Miyazaki). Fantastic sci-fi anime film that reinvigorated Miyazaki's animation career & led to the founding of Studio #Ghibli. Brilliantly conceived, highly intelligent, full of subtlety & wisely avoids simple melodrama.

Photos: Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves (1971). The final Toei Doga animated feature of the Hiroshi Okawa era, and the final for Hayao Miyazaki, who created the zany Genie chase scene. Very colorful, fun movie that deserves 2B seen.
