My dream project as a filmmaker is a live action Evangelion short. It would be set in the show’s universe, a side story set at Euro NERV with Asuka as the main character, before she left for Japan. Setting it at NERV’s Berlin branch would avoid the issue of white washing.

It’s official. My third book will be one of the first English tomes focusing entirely on the Evangelion franchise and its creator Hideaki Anno. It will tell the story of him, Gainax’s founding and how the controversial anime franchise was created and heavily marketed.

And then of course there’s Hideaki Anno, who like Ishinomori has left his distinctive mark on both mediums. His live action Cutie Honey is an under appreciated gem.

Besides the many live action anime and manga adaptations with tokusatsu flourishes, the two mediums have long been closely linked from their staff to their apocalyptic themes.

According to Keita Amemiya, Zeiram is actually intended to be female, not male. The feminine features on her “face” (the monster’s main unit) are supposed to be a dead giveaway.
