Asquith said in the @HouseofCommons:
“His Majesty’s Government are bound to protest against this violation of a Treaty (of London)…and request an assurance that her (Belgium’s) neutrality will be respected by Germany.”

The declaration read:

1,198 people were killed, including 128 American citizens.
The sinking of the Lusitania turned political, press and public opinion in the USA against Germany.
The USA eventually declared war on Germany in April 1917.
