Jonah makes a guest-appearance in this episode of the Bash St Kids by Leo Baxendale in The BEANO No. 1026 (March 17th, 1962):
The Bash Street Kids by Leo Baxendale from the Beano No. 790 with today’s date in 1957.
Ace from Space in 1955 was not only the last text story in The Beano, but also had illustrations by Leo Baxendale:
The Beano of Sept. 16th, 1961 was special because it was the paper's 1,000th edition. What I find surprising is that the episode of Bash Street Kids is a doctored b/w reprint from The Beano No. 778. It was the only reprint during the Leo Baxendale period of the strip.
Mid-50s was a busy period for Leo Baxendale as it were, but Beano editor occasionally gave him even more work, asking him to stand-in for other artists. Dennis the Menace episode, however, is the only one by Leo I’ve seen (or at least I think I can recognize his style there)...
One of the many things I like about Davey Law’s strips in The Beano and the Topper comics is the way he drew animals. Here are a few panels from Beryl the Peril from the Topper No. 172 (May 19th, 1956):

Years ago I used to be a cartoonist and comic artist in Lithuania, but my first-ever published work was in the UK! I was only 10 at the time… I've just found the magazine where it was printed, and composed this blogpost to share my joy: https://t.co/jb23iULMEp
Lovely episode of Pansy Potter from the 1952 Easter issue of The Beano, with a couple of closeups 😀😀
Dennis the Menace makes guest appearance in Minnie the Minx strip in the Beano No. 788 (24 August, 1957)
