You're right, there's a similarity.
In my case, these waves have become a sort of recurrent motif when referring to Tenochtitlan ever since I did a fan art of @nosukuk2's Ahuizotl in 2014, both because of Ahuizotl's aquatic name and the lake surrounding the city.
