The way Ram's appearance alone evokes painful memories, and how his gaze is lowered... that hurt. Along with his hesitance on how to even approach the topic.

One of my top characters is finally introduced! He's characterized as an impulsive, aggressive boy who's overly protective of Sanctuary and has an unique quirk of speaking odd sayings. It's noteworthy that the crystal he's wearing is reminiscent of the one Subaru was handed.

This little creepy yet seductive gesture helps remind both Subaru and the viewer that, no matter how much she may put up a front, we're still dealing with a wicked being with an unknown, perhaps devilish agenda.

Notice how she's genuinely surprised when someone denies her temptation -- but most importantly, her acting after Subaru rejects her offer. I say acting because of the way she glances at him to gauge his reaction. It all kind of feels fake and artificial, don't you think?

I really love this scene; without giving us the answer outright, it hints at various elements of the established worldbuilding, such as the origin of the Witchfiends and the state of the Dragon. I'm especially curious about the second screenshot, what the Witch of Lust did.

If I’m right, next episode will adapt 75 pages, which means yet more cuts in the early exposition phase. But that also means this particular sequence will have enough space for a full 1:1 adaptation and I’m all for it.

The way his entrance to the tomb is depicted, it feels like he's stepping into an entirely different word. For once I like the sharp contrast that the overly bright background offers, as if he's stepping through some sort of portal.

Now there's an interesting bit: Petra gives Subaru a clean handkerchief. While an in-universe reason is given, offering a handkerchief often signifies love in literature, and Petra is evidently crushing on him after he became the village hero.

Frederica going out of her way to embarrass Emilia is glorious -- there's a devious and teasing girl behind all that charming, elegant attitude,

Her teasing side has been massively streamlined in the anime, but it's still nice to see traces of it I suppose.

And there's the moment Rem fans have been waiting for, where Subaru admits to Rem being just as important to him as Emilia. Emilia rightfully calls him out on his sleaziness after that big declaration of love to her, but doesn't pursue the matter out of respect for Rem & Subaru.
