Exciting August 'fall' of migrant birds in NE winds - pages from a rather soggy sketchbook. Good no.s Pied Flycatchers & other migrants. Icterine Warbler balancing on a tern enclosure rope, Greenish Warblers discovered on the beach, in a saltmarsh creek & in suaeda bushes
Curlews preening amongst samphire - forgive this series of field sketches being a bit similar but I'm enjoying trying to suss out all the different postitions that the preening birds get themselves into
Dunlin, Bar-tailed & Black-tailed Godwits - hightide sketch @RSPBTitchwell
While sketching a female Wheatear this evening a Merlin flashed past me in hot pursuit of a male. The Wheatear escaped through a hedge and the Merlin landed on the top of a tree bobbing its head and looking all around, before dashing off again.
Rooks sunning themselves in early morning. Calm start with light frost. Lots of activity today, especially nest-building.
Woodcock feeding with Rooks in the middle of a large open sugar beet field was an unexpected surprise in the village. Had enough of this persistent wet & windy weather!
