🦌Autumn 1684. Louis goes on a hunting trip. His first stop was Chambord, where he stayed for a few weeks in September. However, his favourite hunting grounds were at Fontainebleau, where he went on 12 October.
23 March 1680. Following the death of Nicolas Foucquet, Saint-Mars discovers a hole in the chimney of his apartment leading to the one below. The lower one is occupied by Lauzun. Saint-Mars learns that his efforts to follow orders and keep Eustache and Lauzun apart have failed.

20 December 1664. Saint-Mars becomes governor of Pignerol prison. He travels on ahead in order to prepare the fortress to receive Nicolas Foucquet, who will be his only prisoner - for now.
December 1669. Saint-Mars uncovers a major security breach during which an attempt was made to contact Eustache. Suspicious, he had refused to speak to them. One plotter, Foucquet’s former valet La Fôret, was hanged. Louvois was kept informed by a secret mole inside Pignerol.
8 December 1678 (a bit late😳) Louis holds an interview with Matthioli at Versailles. They sign a secret treaty which envisages the occupation of Casale by a French garrison. A very happy Louis gives Matthioli the gift of diamond ring in gratitude. @Pegasus_Books @amberleybooks
