This whole story really started coming into existence when I got a zine on pitching GNs to literary agents & I thought of ideas that I could develop from the ground up. It feels like I've been spending forever on the pitch, maybe too long, but here's hoping it leads to something!
Their story is p much a follow up to my Hazel Skies comics; they're both lonely girls who find joy in spending time with one another, & that friendship allows them to grow & learn more about themselves, good and bad.
Aria is a cloud girl who was playing on the wings of Luda's plane when she was accidentally brought down during landing. Among the cloud people she's a shy quiet girl like Luda, but on the ground she's able to be a charming girl who can be openly and effortlessly herself.
Luda is an expat kid who was born and raised in Russia, but attends an American expat school and only knows how to speak English. She's known by everyone around her as being the quiet, shy one, but internally Luda is very spunky & snarky, its just rarely brought into the open.
I've been working on the pitch since roughly last September, but the very basic idea is something I've had since I was a kid. I came up with the basic idea when looking out the plane window on one of my family's annual 18-hour flight from Russia to the US for summer vacation.
I mentioned Cloud Girl Story recently, so I may as well start talking about some of my original ideas with it! It's a story about a girl named Luda who meets and befriends a cloud girl named Aria [thread]
I love making & sharing fanart, but I do spend a lot of time thinking about my original stories, & it just struck me recently that I don't really talk about them publicly. It might be nice to be a bit more open about my ideas, even if they go nowhere! #OriginalContentArtist
All of the stuff I wrote out was important & I'm glad I put in the effort to do that, but I've forgotten how much I learn about the characters & the story by just by doodling the chars in random poses and expressions I think they'd make
I didn't have the heart to work on my Cloud Girl Story pitch when lockdown started, but recently I've been revisiting my notes & drawing the characters again, & I think I'm ready to get back into finishing the pitch
