In the first 3 issues they build up that Nul is the Breaker of Worlds, and he is coming to destroy the Concordance Engine, and when he does the Universe will break.
Then he actually gets his chance, and we find out it was all a feint to show off how powerful Prester John is.

Others are just jokes, or classic "story continued after next page" blurbs, or ad blurbs for other comics.
Some of the captions Fraction is writing now in Jimmy Olsen remind me of these, as do the footnote blurbs in Squirrel Girl.

I love this series so much that I own 2 copies of every issue, and variants, and the trades. If you're going to read it, I recommend the single issues, because the trades cut out the footnotes at the bottom. Some of them are story relevant lines, because everything is connected.

As openings go, it doesn't get much better. The series spun out of Fraction's Fear Itself event and was better than that by far. The black monster is Nul, Breaker of Worlds, who possessed Hulk during Fear Itself but was separated from him in the end.

So Matt Fraction's name has come up in my feed a couple of times this week, and it's made me want to revisit my personal favourite comic that he's ever written - Defenders.

I know I say this about every Spider-Man villain, but Mysterio really is one of my favorites. Looking forward to seeing more of him in Far From Home.
