4 years ago (or so the internet tells me), I was colouring the first sample page for Candles, which would become part of the pitch I'd send to @LizzieHKaye.

The artwork got overhauled during the book process but the storytelling is still there hidden within the ink.

Painting nice, gentle things this morning. Practically a Disney film some might say. Nothing dark or sinister to see here. Honest...

These two characters have a lot of movement whenever they are on the page. I had Idris labelled as "parkour wizard" in my notes. There's a lot of running, jumping over tables (and knocking everything over) as he talks to Ava.

The opening slightly tricks the reader, everything looks charm and gentle, a ideal fantasy location.

Then we have an explosion and the bird is stopped in its tracks as we are introduced to our two chaotic protagonists.
