April 11th is International Submarine Day, marking the anniversary of the USA's first submarine in 1900. The first British submarine was built for James VI in 1620 by Cornelius Drebble. Here is a fine example of a nuclear submarine in a coat of arms.
The arms of Lord Forteviot, who was chairman of the family distilling firm John Dewar and Sons, were granted on March 30th 1917. Appropriately for Easter Weekend, the arms include both an Agnus Dei and a crowing cock.

On the 1st March the Lord Lyon was privileged to attend the historic occasion of the Consecration and Installation of the First Woman Bishop in the Scottish Episcopal Church. The service took place in St Andrews Cathedral Aberdeen and Right Revd Anne Dyer was duly ordained.
From our files 100 years ago: Major Alan Edmonstoune Greenshields Leadbetter of Stobieside, killed at 20 in action near Ypres the previous year, his father petitioned for differenced arms for him and had a memorial window installed at Bedrule Church, Roxburghshire.
Yvonne Holton, Dingwall Pursuivant and Herald Painter, gave a talk last week to the Heraldry Society on Compartments. Among her slides was this remarkable coat of arms of Robertson of Struan.
The Lord Lyon gave a talk to the Tay Probus Club in Perth. There were 50 members present who asked various questions on the Court of the Court of Lord Lyon. There was particular interest in the arms of Hydro Electric Scotland Arms.
The Lord Lyon as Patron attended on the 2nd February the AGM of the Association of Scottish Genealogists and Researchers in Archives. It was a historic occasion as the Association presented to its outgoing chair, Janet Bishop, the first Fellowship of the Association.

The Lord Lyon has granted arms to Rear Admiral Christopher Hope Layman CB, DSO, LVO, Gentleman Usher of the Green Rod to the Order of the Thistle. The artist is Annette Reed.
