It sounds like Sega may be unaware that there's a later version of the tracks. They pulled a prototype from the archives, recorded it and called it a day.

According to this thread, there are flags in the data to suggest the Genesis protos used to sound more like the PC ones, which is assumed to sound more like the original demo tracks. Thus leading to the probability of them being direct recordings from an earlier prototype.

@k5x5x5x He has two eyeballs. He’s inspired by Felix the Cat and Classic Mickey, both of which influenced his facial features. It’s even more obvious on his early rabbit design.
