Anybody know the symbolism behind this ring-knot pectoral ornament that Huitzilopochtli tends to be depicted with?
@AztecEmpire1520 did a piece for some of @dimorei 's research showing the attire a child buried with that included a similar ornament,

@gandalfgreymon I made this edit of the normal Kyuubimon art in case you'd like to use it for consistency for the Silver variant
(making this at a higher resolution one day is gonna be a pain)
@Rookie_425 (Also, if the sort of geopolitical wrestling I mention between different Spanish and Aztec officials and rulers sounds interesting, check out @AztecEmpire1520 's comic, it's well researched and handles it right. I can suggest academic sources etc too)
@Limon_en_Bici Also, I think Chronomon Destroy could make a good UItlimate stage for it? Both are birds, have dark reds &guns.
I'd have made this as my own tweet rather then a reply, but I don't think the 500 people who follow me for Aztec history would like it😅
@MISTYWIZAR @gandalfgreymon
@autismboss My favorite creature design trope is the Impish jester archtype you see in Japanese media.
The Nightmare animation in Pokemon Stadium, Dark Fly Chao from Sonic Adventure 2, NIGHTS, Impmon/Cherubimon Vice/Keramon from Digimon, Balan Wonderworld bosses (bad game, 👌boss designs)
@Supa_Kitsune @GeomeTribal Yes, most large structures in Mesoamerica had some combination of coverings of stucco, sculptural facades or stone fretwork (as seen there) and painted accents or murals
These pics show reconstructions (third pic is of Uxmal, like the above photos) showing this. In fact...
@banannerbread It always makes me laugh that there was this huge moral panic of Pokemon being satanic back in the 90's and early 2000's, and meanwhile Digimon was just sitting there and got no flak when it had stuff like this
I'm behind on #OnyxEquinox , been busy working on a project (I'll hopefully do a big breakdown on the first 2 eps when I can!) but I instantly noticed this in the OP
Iffy if the layout matches exactly, but seems to be El Tajin, if nothing else that's the Temple of the Niches!...
@cfthisfootnote Great thread!
Tho a pet peeve of mine is the inconsistent definitions for "Aztec": I would have said it can mean Mexica, OR the Nahuas as a whole, OR the "Empire", etc
Also., @AztecEmpire1520 's comic features Juan Garrido, women auxiliaries, and specific named Nahua officials!
@XiranJayZhao There's multiple inventors of paper!
Bark Paper was also independently invented in Mesoamerica & used for books by the Aztec, Maya, etc. Sadly, most of these were burned by the Spanish
(Top right image is from @AztecEmpire1520 's amazing comic, bottom right by Louis Glanzman)
