The 1995 Japanese guide for Mario's Super Picross contains a short comic built on the same premise as the American Mario cartoons - that Mario and Luigi have a plumbing business in Brooklyn - with the difference that Princess Peach is also an employee at their company.
In Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, Luigi's new, redrawn Super Mario World sprites have an unused palette that gives him Mario's colors.
In most depictions, Donkey Kong Jr. wears clothing with a "J" on it; this is also how he appears in Super Mario Kart official art. In-game, his torso is almost always obscured by the kart's steering wheel, however, when it is visible, it is revealed to have a "V" on it instead.
Princess Toadstool design from an early Super Mario Bros. manga predating the wide adoption of her current design; based roughly off of her Super Mario Bros. sprite (left).
In the title screen of Super Mario 64, it is possible to retract the facial features of Mario's floating head into his face rather than stretching them outward by utilizing the R and C buttons' functionalities. Here is Mario's head with all facial features fully retracted.
@RadicalDreamerr "MAGIC" superimposes shapes over the battlefield, while "BGLASTER" makes the top portion of the same Boo sprite appear, but distorted. Screenshots are provided. Thank you for your inquiry!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate includes new high-resolution versions of artwork of Mario franchise characters in its Spirits mode. The character benefiting the most from this is Don Bongo from Yoshi's Story, whose previous largest resolution was 114x118 and is now 566x578 pixels.
In the background of Level 7-1, "Foggy Fumes", in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mr. Game & Watch can be seen hitting a pipe with a hammer. Below are the sprites used for him, extracted from the game's data.
Unused early Big Boo sprite found in the data of Super Princess Peach. Due to only a sprite with a happy expression being present, this could possibly be a scrapped "Glad Big Boo" species. In the finished game, all Big Boos are non-emotional Big Boos or Mad Big Boos.
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Luigi can reach one of three sizes upon completing the Snack Basket special attack. At the smallest size, the "L" on his hat is missing, with the emblem being blank.
