Combat at Vera, in heavy rain the advancing Division of French troops were held up by 2 Companies (only 100 men) of 95th Rifles, across a narrow bridge.

Commanded by Captain Cadoux, who requests for support were denied, they held out overnight.

Two battalions served in Crimea.

Other regiments had Rifles by this point (the Minie), towards the end of the war the RB received the Long Enfield Rifle.

In the earlier stages of the war, they led attacks & rearguards. But still suffered in the trenches.

'Capture of the Eagle, Waterloo'

Cpl Styles & his Squadron Leader, Capt Alexander Kennedy Clarke of the Life Guards, captured the Eagle of the 105eme Regiment during hand-to-hand fighting.

Cpl Styles received a promotion to Sergeant as a reward.

The Battle of Smolensk, 16 to 18 August 1812.

Seeing that they were in a hopeless situation, during 3rd night the Russian army evacuated the burning city & continued their retreat east.

Ship's surgeon 'The Cockpit after battle'.

On a ship's table the surgeon removes bullets & huge wooden splinters from the sailors & Marines sometimes from their foe too, assisted by Mates.

Patients were conscious even as the surgeon performs amputations.

It is interesting!

The allies suffered 53 killed, 98 wounded & 45 captured

KGL Brigade commander, de Joncquières, was captured.

The French officer casualties were 1 killed & 15 wounded. It is likely that the the troopers suffered a similar level to the Portuguese & KGL.
