Don't get me wrong, Yuji Uekawa's artwork is stellar, but when it comes to 2D art for Sonic, I have Joe MacMillan on the same level as Uekawa-san.
The dude just radiated style with his art.
A few people I've seen across YouTube and on a few review sites say stuff like Sonic in the 2000s began to "stray from the series roots" because of the higher stakes and greater emphasis on storytelling, but... no?
Other series go through a similar progression
Please shut up
26. This is the best Sonic the Hedgehog design to this day. 06 did him good.
15. My favorite boss fight is against Mecha Knuckles mainly because of how unexpected yet cinematic it is, with the special character animations and the two different phases.
Either that, or Sonic's boss fight in Rush.
14. My favorite basic enemy/bad guy is easily these guys, Black Oaks
They're just such absolute behemoths, and strangely badass for relatively common enemies
13. This guy
Not many other Sonic villains were ever as successful or as badass as him. He might not have much depth, but he doesn't need depth to be a good, badass, and effective bad guy
10. Well, if you couldn't guess from the above tweet, Chronicles is one of them, alongside Rush
7. I don't feel like typing out every Sonic game I think is dogshit, so here's a crop from my Sonic games tier list instead
