Martin Lewis (1881-1962) was an Australian-born printmaker who traveled the world before settling in New York City in 1900. His images of 1920s New York street clearly influenced Eric Hopper's famous "Nighthawks" (pic 4).
I'm now the happy owner of the new album by Mogwai. (Just bought it on itunes). Many eerie, epic, melancholy and uplifting songs on this album. It's pretty damn special. Film producers take note - epic soundtrack

The fantastic WAR OF THE WORLDS illustrations from 1906 by Brazilian, Alvim Corrêa. Unfortunately Corrêa died of tuberculosis 4 years later. His illustrations "did not bring him fame in his lifetime or after, but his work has been cherished since by a devoted cult following."
