Jean Delville was a Belgian painter (1867-1953). He was a Neoplatonist & Theosophist who believed in a higher realm. Following the failure of the ‘New Christ’ Krishnamurti in 1929, he had a burn-out & left his family for a young woman. His art and Theosophy fell out of fashion.

"The Treasures of Satan" by Jean Deville (1867-1953). The depiction of Satan under water was a first in Western Art. Instead of wings he has long octopus tentacles. His 'treasures' are the sleeping figures surrounded with jewels & gold coins; representing materialism & avarice.

Arthur Rackham's Gothic Alice in Wonderland illustrations. At the time, in 1907, many felt that Sir John Tenniel’s original illustrations for Alice (1865) had become so iconic that any other interpretation was blasphemy. However, Rackham made Alice both more sweet & more scary.

The sketches for "New York Movie, 1939" by Edward Hopper. Like most of Hopper's female studies, the sketches are of his wife of 40 years, Jo. In this case, posed under a lamp in their home. Jo was an artist & her watercolor Movie Theater Gloucester (1926) inspired this artwork.

It's going to take a brave, visionary director to reboot DUNE after the critical and box office flop that was David Lynch's only turkey. Denis Villeneuve (Bladerunner 2049) is that director and Dune is set for release in Dec 2020. Some production art of the Fremen has emerged.

For When Samuel Bak's (1933) home town in Poland was occupied by the Germans in 1941, Bak & his family were moved into the ghetto. At the age of 9, he held his first exhibition inside the Ghetto. He & his mother were the only survivors from his family.

In the 1880s, as the tuberculosis & depression of Abbott Thayer's wife increased, he began painting their children as transcendental spirits. After she died, he made many paintings of his daughter as a Madonna-like figure watching over her siblings. Over years, they age together.
