is by Charles Robinson for "The Remarkable Rocket" from "The Happy Prince and Other Stories" by Oscar Wilde (1913). Looking very much like Jadis or The Snow Queen, this is the "Russian Princess". Gorgeous illustration from the "Golden age".

is by Bill Peet for “The Caboose that got loose” (1971). Famous for his work on Disney’s Dumbo, Peet went on to have a distinguished career in children’s books in America. Not many made it here, but they are full of his characterful drawings... & trains!

is by Gordon Laite for "The Blue Book of Fairy Tales" (1959) - a Little Golden Book. Laite is inexplicably forgotten today but I love his fanciful, romantic, fairytale work. Here's a scene from Beauty & the Beast, full of charm, and characterisation.

is by for "Out & About through the Year" (1988). Here's a freezing cold picture from the doyenne of illustration - that red sun really showing how icy everything else is. "Hard ground, Bare trees, Branches crack, Fingers freeze"... Brrr!

is by Gordon Laite for Aileen Fisher's "Now that days are colder" (1971). Laite was best known for illustrating fairy tales, but this lovely book is also a delight. Joyfully inclusive too. The snow here has melted, but ate some yesterday!

Remembering the voice of MOUSE in the animated adaptation of - in 1934. We met during recording sessions, & he was just as lovely as you'd expect. I am currently illustrating book 6 - & will raise my glass to him tonight!

continues with the series. Here's Riera Rojas, a Spanish artist & illustrator - Papageno & Papagena from a book of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" (1970). No author credit. Picasso meets Provensen? Gorgeous either way, very "Musical"!

is by Lisbeth Zwerger, continuing my series of Here's an image for "The Swineherd" by HC Anderson (1982). Liquid line, sensitive washes, bold compositions, all held together with exceptional skill. Beautiful, inspirational art.

is by fabulous Gustaf Tenggren for "Jack & The Beanstalk" (1953). A little Golden Book of this famous tale, elevated by having an artist of this calibre. Beautiful paintings with a hint of the Italian Renaissance about them. Wonderful artist.

is by for "Out and About through the Year" (1988). A classic collection of poems coupled with illustrations brimming with heart and warmth and lovingly observed detail. A quiet moment of hope here, as a solitary child looks to the skies.
