LOVE OF NATURE- I have always loved animals and spending time in nature, and I wanted to show that love in 7" Kara, even with something as simple as lovingly depicting a backyard as a huge expanse to explore.
While working on 7" Kara, there are a few themes that are really important to me and I'd like to talk about them a bit, so yall get where I'm coming from.
Volume 2 serves to strengthen that immersion, while also showing how Kara reacts to the human world, and a life larger than her own.
As a self published comic, 7" Kara represents 10 years of work and growth. This comic began as my MFA thesis comic, created at a time when a young, adventurous girl protagonist was unusual, an ADHD lead unheard of, and solving problems through understanding unusual.
Volume 1 contains chapters 1-4, plus a bonus chapter. We meet Kara and her family, see the dollhouse they call home, explore the tall grass, and are introduced to Pancake and Naomi.
These two little Leprechauns were originally designed as cut-out papercrafts! I think they turned out really cute.
The date in the graphic is wrong- here's an updated graphic with the correct dates!
I'm so excited to announce that my partner and I will be able to offer the NATTO comic art scholarship again this year!
I found granulating colors dried muddy on the fine paper surface, and layers wanted to reactivate
