Much as I have nostalgia for the 90s run of Nightwing, I don't think "Gotham, but worse" is the way to go. It feels needlessly edgy, takes away from the mythic nature of Gotham, and makes Nightwing feel like Batman-lite.

On the other hand, Rebirth's was just Vegas by the sea.

I love that Lemire kept the aspects of Robin that make it something Dick really created and defined: using the nickname from his mom, his family's colors, and an identity separate from Batman (he's not Batboy).

@geekyhush Cause Sharp doesn't really do realistic art. Lately he's been getting a lot more surreal/stylized. Compare Brave and the Bold from a few years ago to Batman Reptilian.

I think it's important that of the original Legacy characters at DC, Dick is the only one whose name and/or costume aren't derivative of his mentor.

He's not Batboy. He doesn't wear a mini Bat suit. Dick was always his own hero.

@TalkinLadyShiva And it's not like Batmam ever fights fair. The whole idea of him being able to win with prep time is predicated on the fact that he never fights fair. If you're in a fair fight you've got some pretty bad tactics.

Being a historian myself, Tomasi's Nightwing is catered directly to me.

For one, he HAS trained with assassins, and not Deathstroke (in the main comics anyways). He trained under the original Shrike at the Vengeance Academy, a branch of the League of Assassins, in Robin Year One.

And he DID die in Forever Evil. Luthor killed him.
