This issue is basically examining Dick's insecurity that's been building up for the past few years due to getting kicked off the Titans, his relationship with Kory ending, and Bruce not picking him as his successor.
The issue ends with Dick's hallucination turning into the anxiety nightmare he's been having, and reveals his big fear is failure. Pretty consistent trait of his since the early days and New Teen Titans, but it's always nice to reaffirm it.
This is the Scarecrow issue (timely, considering Fear State is around the corner). I like this line: "Up here, fear's not an option. You can fall 60 stories or slip in the shower. Worrying about it's a waste of time."
Here's another instance of Dick helping people out even as a civilian, outside the costume. Unfortunately, Tad Ryerstad, the future "Nite-Wing" kills the guy Dick was trying to help.
Still, Dick holds his own. Tazes him with 30,000 volts (though Blocky shrugs it off).
Again, Desmond is treating Dick more like an extension of Batman, an inferior sent to squash crime in the neighboring city. He'll change his opinion later on.
So Clancy was born in Hong Kong, raised in Ireland, and went to college in America. She's such an interesting side character, and I really like her dynamic with Dick. They never actually date for real. They go out a couple times, but he's not really focused on romance for a while
And this is a great interrogation scene. Batman scares the hell out of crooks when he hurts them. Nightwing can do that too, but he'll also smile and make fun of you while he's doing it.
Juxtaposed with the flashbacks to the circus is a cool montage of Dick fighting across Blüdhaven, looking for answers to who the new crime boss is in the city. We've seen him deal with a lot of these people, or their bosses, before, so this is the culmination of his investigation
Dick's having more nightmares about failure. I think it's interesting that in his dreams he's still Robin.
I think this is also the first time Dick calls Tim his brother.
