I love inventing old buildings. This street view is from “The Boy Who Fell Off The Mayflower”. #pjlynchart #preparatorysketch #PencilDrawing
Happy #WorldBookDay 2020
Here's a picture I did for one of my favourite books, "The Once and Future King", by TH White.
It shows Merlyn, Wart and Merlyn's talking owl, Archimedes reading together.

For the day that's in it, here's a romantic illustration (with a little nod to Klimt's "The Kiss") from East O' The Sun And West O' The Moon.
Happy Valentine's Day.
Lizbeth Zwerger is my third my great illustration hero.
Her exceptional drawing skill combined with a light touch in her use of watercolour to produce magical art like this from "The Swineherd” by HC Andersen. @lizbethzwerger @mrjamesmayhew #BookIllustrationOfTheDayBirthday2
This #HolocaustMemorialDay here is a cover I did for "The Devil In Vienna" by Doris Orgel.
A very powerful and moving book that is still sadly relevant today.

Sad to hear that Chemistry is closing its doors.
I did a couple of ads for them about ten years ago and I remember the thrill of seeing them as 48 sheet posters all around the country.
The ads won a stack of awards too!

There are several versions of Medea around including Rose Byrne's in Brooklyn and a radical update by Kate Mulvany and Anne-Louise Sarks coming to the Gate.
And here is my painting of Medea mocked up as a theatre poster.
Hint, hint!

White gouache over watercolour is perfect for painting icy ghosty things.

According to #illustration chronicles, Hans Christian Andersen's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" was first published on this day 180 years ago as part of a collection of stories called "Fairy Tales Told for Children". #TheSteadfastTinSoldier #HCA #pjlynchart
