Update: I have now put on a 2nd analysis on a different computer for an overnight run #phd
Today is #InternationalDayoftheSeal! The Ross Seal (Ommatophoca rossii) lives around Antarctica. We know surprisingly little about them. Their large eyes and short faces make them look like space aliens! 👽
This male Hooded seal skull is so extreme. All eyes 👀 nose👃and ears👂 leaving not much space for the brain 🧠 #PhD
Preparing slides for my #PhD mid-candidature, and I inadvertently made the next hit show: Game of Seals!
Bearded and Hooded #seal skulls demonstrate a close relationship to ancestral phocines
However, living ones show they have weird features other phocines don't, like BEARDED WHISKERS and the ability to EVERT THEIR NASAL MEMBRANES!
#Evolution is bizarre

Like all babies, this Weddell #Seal pup has unfused skull bones at birth, and unerupted teeth! All while entering a harsh world of ice and freezing temperatures ❄🌨 #Phd #Antarctica

@davidghamilton1 Umm excuse me, but what about the Numbat? One of the greatest marsupials out there, so clearly belongs in at least the Top 10. As termites are animals, they count as carnivores! 🐜🐜🐜
Worked on some 3D scans of the #fossil pinniped Allodesmus kernensis today. Slowly getting through all of the data I collected in the USA.
