Vanitas no Carte's premiere takes a page out of the book of Kunihiko Ikuhara with folklore narrated over uncanny visuals before diving into the show. I believe the narrators voice is even the same as that of Utena's though I'm not 100% sure. Brilliant either way.

The color direction in this episode in particular is phenomenal. It mostly encompasses a flashback so I would assume for that reason, more muted hues were chosen and naturally, Kobayashi's water colors fit like a glove.
