I hesitate to call these cuts insignificant in the grand scene of the episode but they honestly are. Nevertheless there's no less attention to detail spared, the depth in the faces is incredible
Neo Ranga #41
30 seconds into a Toshiyuki Tsuru x Hirofumi Suzuki episode and you can already tell you're about to be blown away by pure artistry
Episode #40 of Neo Ranga is a Keiko Shimizu (清水恵子) episode so the heightened profile chins are on full display. It's something she's done throughout the series.
Abundantly clear is his approach when it comes to fading the sides of cels. I hadn't noticed this before because most of my exposure to his work comes in the digital era but its absolutely a trait he implores here.
Hajime Kamegaki is one of several initial imitators of Yoshinori Kanada's industry-defining animation style of the 70s. As a director tho, his sole episode of Ranga is one of the most unique in the series. Several motifs repeated numerous times to establish rhythm and structure
fantastic layouts, you can tell this isn't any ordinary effort. Shimazaki Nanako also did two other solid sets of episodes on the series but Ishino's animation direction is the x-factor that sets #35 apart
more or less the same key animators as a number of other episodes but everything has such solid form to it under Ishino. I've always wondered why he was considered part of the Nakajima-Suzuki-Matsutake group at Deen but it's pretty clear to me now.
