Personally I think Dragon King: The Fighting Game is a mistranslation of the prototype of Smash.

This is because it was named 龍王 (Ryuo) after the town that HAL is located in, not after any character or plot point.

It'd be like translating LA Noire into "The Angles Noire".

Iwata would work on these prototypes on the weekends.

Work would continue for awhile, but in the end it was decided to focus on the fighting game, as it could be completed faster. The adventure game would take at least 2 years to finish.
