In the recent report about the Metal Empire it's said that it seems that they are trying to expand their territory, as if something was controlling them for that to happen. This isn't the first that that this happens.

In the "Digimon Adventure:" website, Bullmon is said to be an "Armor Body" (アーマー体) Digimon.

I remember some people saying that the "non conventional levels" would be ignored or something like that, but no. Bullmon still is an Armor Level in Adv:

And finally, when the Human is capable of maintaining both the Human and Beast spirits in harmony it's capable of giving birth to a new form that fuses both the wisdom of the Humans and the Power of the Digimon, and then a new legend is born.

However the individual Spirits seems to have lost some of their abilities over time, as such the Spirit of "Humans" needs to be added to their individual Spirits in order to complement the lost abilities, this is the "Spirit Evolution" that creates the "Hybrid Body".

However, that wasn't the only gift from the Warrior Ten. Knowing that the Digital World could be in danger once again, they released their souls in the form of the legendary Spirits. Humans would be called to the Digital World as heirs of the souls of the Warrior Ten.

It's interesting how a big part of the hype behind the PenZ, at least for me, is on the additions to the franchises with new settings and Digimon, but originally this would just be a "V-Pet with unused Digimon"
