Cultivate and Kodama's Reach are the dominate 3cmc ramp spells in edh, but sometimes you want land and a monster. Growth Spasm delivers, with ramp and a token that ramps. It fills a unique niche that helps it fit into a bunch of potential decks. #mtgtokens
I hated this when I opened it in 2008, but in 2020 it's a potentially ridiculous life swing. It's not good and it's not popular, and it shouldn't be. Even in Commander Invincible Hymn is pretty bad most of the time. But that one game where it isn't...people will remember that.
Morningtide was the first set where I followed the daily reveals, and clear as crystal I remember seeing Preeminent Captain for the first time. I had the Kithkin Militia theme deck and this seemed like an amazing power-up for it. That flavour text was also one of my early favs.
I like this cool jaguar on Canopy Cover. What a neat uncommon. Cards that aren't hidden gems, just "hey thats okay" are some of my favourites to revisit and highlight. Canopy Cover has probably even won some games before, and thats nice.
Imagine having to sac your own lands that let you ramp into Tectonic Hellion if you attack because you have one more than the player with Coffers and Urborg. I wanted to like it, because its big and red and a Hellion. But I still don't. And at 256 decks on edhrec, I'm not alone.
Upcoming Talonflame has me thinking about TEU Zapdos as a man attacker. Switching is so easy right now and Talonflame has free retreat. Attack is also very nice: for a generic energy discard your hand & Draw 6 - which you can use the first turn! Set-up potential is nice here.
