Street Fighter's Hugo is a great character design.

Inspired by Andre the Giant, debuted in Final Fight, surprising mobility for a grappler, awesome signature grabs, cool name, resembles Frankenstein's Monster and even manages to make pink look threatening - what's *not* to like?

18 years on, it still feels surreal Jeno Reno being one of the two stars of Onimusha 3?

It all adds to the appeal of this fantastic game though, his character Jacques has an awesome moveset (later he can even bodyslam big enemies!) and some truly outlandish weapons

More awesome work from Piotr and ahuizotl13, the beginning of the Lava Cave stage is one of the few shots in the game of Trisolde without her helmet, as she wipes the seat from her brow

One of SNK's most distinctive villains, KOF's Rugal Bernstein.

I suspect his odd name may be a mistranslation from Japanese, L's and R's tending to be switched - this would suggest that his name is meant to be 'Luger', which given he's German, would make perfect sense? 🤔

Haggar was a bit of a meme long ago, with various ridiculous (though not so ridiculous) stories of his sheer machismo allowing him to perform seemingly godly feats of masculinity, such as piledriving sharks.

But all good things must come to an end...

Many cute (but now forgotten) mascot imitators showed up in the early-mid 90s trying to take a slice of Mario and Sonic's glory.

And Bubsy might still be the WORST...

And also it's sequel Ring of Destruction 💪🏼

That series featured another sadly underutilised Capcom character in Victor Ortega, who had an awesome look and moveset - a grappler with a projectile!

They should perhaps leave out the golden codpiece next time though? 🤔

Mayor Mike Haggar is one of the most iconic Street Fighters, with the ironic distinction that he's yet to appear in any games outside of being a background character?

Word is he's still choking 'J' to this day...

Two Crude Dudes on the Sega Megadrive.

I really miss the days when box art was THIS macho and cheesy, yet so irresistibly compelling?

I mean, if you've never heard of this game before, I bet you want to know more just by looking at this image, right? 😀

Looking back, it's very strange that cartoon mainstays Rocksteady and Bebop didn't feature in either version, and were relegated to mere cameos in War's background on the SNES?

Both could have made great additions to the line up, along with Baxter Stockman.
